Wedding FAQs

  • How many guest rooms do you have?

    We have 62 spacious rooms in a variety of sleeping configurations. We also feature a small number of cottages with full kitchens.

  • Do you offer room blocks?

    Yes. We are pleased to extend courtesy guestroom blocks for those hosting events with us.

  • What are the booking restrictions?

    You are welcome to book up to four rooms for your party; whether it is a family gathering, wedding or retreat. Five rooms or more that are for ANY gathering MUST be booked through our reservation department. We reserve the right to cancel any rooms that do not meet the criteria.

  • Can we do a buyout of all rooms at Big Sur Lodge for our wedding?

    We are happy to discuss this with you on a case-by-case basis. Please feel free to call our Event Coordinator at 831-667-3100, ext. 15 to discuss.

  • What venues do you offer for weddings at Big Sur Lodge?

    The Redwood Patio is our most popular venue. The polished redwood bar, the river flowing by and the lush greenery create a welcoming backdrop. We recommend this area for events of 20-80 guests. The lovely Santa Lucia Room accommodates up to a maximum of 120 guests (including the outdoor patio). The Santa Lucia Room is located near our swimming pool, a photograph of which is shown here.

  • The restaurant is also available to host events (with buyout)

  • How do we design our menus and our wedding event with Big Sur Lodge?

    Our event team will send you menus and a questionnaire that helps us to better understand your vision. Together, we’ll design your perfect menu (according to your budget and tastes) and flow of the event from beginning to end.

  • Can you give me a price range for events at Big Sur Lodge?

    In general, for your planning purposes, dinner event menus range in price from $60.00-$70.00 per person (excluding alcoholic beverages and applicable site fees). Breakfast and lunch events begin at $38.00 per person. We feature California wines beginning at $36.00 per bottle and special orders are welcome.

    Please note: all prices listed are estimates and subject to change without notice. All prices are quoted exclusive of applicable taxes and service charges which are currently 18% service gratuity and 7.75% sales tax.

  • Can I have an open bar at the wedding?

    Big Sur Lodge welcomes beer and wine bars serviced by one of our bartenders. Billing for you bar is part of the customization of your event.

  • May we provide the beer, wine or champagne for our event?

    Due to licensing restrictions, Big Sur Lodge will provide all alcoholic beverages for your event.

  • When should we discuss our menu selections?

    Together we will create a menu when we first begin our planning. Since this is a creative process, we understand that your ideas may change as we plan. All menus need to be finalized at least a month before your event.

  • How long will my rehearsal dinner, reception and day after brunch last?

    Plan on three to four hours for your rehearsal gathering, five hours for your wedding gathering and up to three hours for your brunch.

  • Can we arrange early check ins for our guests?

    Check in starts at 4 p.m. If you have a party planned at an earlier hour, we recommend that your guests book a room the night before so that they will have ample time to prepare for the event.

  • Can we have a wedding ceremony at Big Sur Lodge or in Pfieffer State Park?

    Yes absolutely! We have many ceremony locations and will explore those as part of our planning process. In Pfeiffer State Park, with the Park’s input and permission, couples also have many options. We will work together with the Special Events Coordinator for California State Parks, Big Sur Sector if an in-park location is your preference.

  • Can we have a rehearsal dinner barbeque in Pfieffer State Park?

    Yes. An informal, barbeque and picnic-style rehearsal dinner catered by Big Sur Lodge can be held in one of the picturesque Pfeiffer State Park’s picnic venues. There is a site fee and application process with the State Park to reserve your selected location. Our Event Coordinator can show you these locations in person if you like.

  • How do we get the application to reserve a picnic area for a dining event at Pfieffer State Park?

    Please contact our Event Coordinator at 831-667-3100 ext. 15 or you can call the Special Events Coordinator for California State Parks, Big Sur Sector directly at 831-667-0507.

  • Do you have florists, wedding cakes, photographers, entertainment, transportation and shuttles, personal bridal coordinating, bridal hair stylists, etc?

    Our Event Coordinator can recommend providers with expertise in each of these areas of service and who will deliver and/or service Big Sur for your event.

  • Can I decorate my reception area myself?

    Of course, and but we would recommend that you coordinate your ideas with the Big Sur Lodge who will cater your event. If you need additional assistance with your decorating, our Event Coordinator can give you names of providers such as florists, or the Lodge can assist with your decorating for an additional fee.

  • Does Big Sur Lodge have a wedding cake-cutting fee?

    The Big Sur Lodge does not charge a wedding cake cutting fee.

  • Can we have an in person wedding consultation and/or site tour?

    Absolutely – it is recommended. Please call our Event Coordinator to set up a time for a consultation at Big Sur Lodge – 831-667 3100 ext.15. We would be delighted to provide you with more information to assist you in the planning of your special day.
